NC stands for socio-economic empowerment of weaker sections: Sadhotra
Jammu, July 20: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today said that his party stands for socio-economic empowerment of the weaker sections.
According to a press note, he was talking to a delegation of Other Backward Classes (OBC) which called on him and pitched for the implementation of the Mandal Commission Report to empower the weaker sections of society socially, economically and politically.
The delegation also sought Reservation as per Mandal Commission Report and reservation of Seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, and called for caste based survey in Jammu and Kashmir so that the benefits of progress and other welfare schemes reach every segment as per their population.
While endorsing the demands of the delegation, Sadhotra said these issues of immense importance would be taken up with the Manifesto Formulation Committee of the National Conference for consideration and inclusion. “NC stands for the welfare and socio-economic and political empowerment of the weaker sections, peasants, women and the youth,”he said. He referred to various landmark initiatives taken by the successive National Conference governments, saying their impact has been huge to empower these sections optimally.
Sadhotra also recalled the contribution of the National Conference led government under Omar Abdullah as Chief Minister towards the welfare and empowerment of Other Backward Classes, saying due to strenuous efforts the reservation of OBCs was enhanced upto four percent during his tenure but that was not implemented by the successive government.
