Srinagar, Oct 23: Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition (LOP) Sunil Sharma on Thursday sharply criticised members of the National Conference (NC) for making inappropriate remarks during obituary references in the Legislative Assembly, just a day before the crucial Rajya Sabha elections.

Expressing disappointment over the conduct of some NC legislators, Sharma accused them of using a solemn House proceeding meant to honour deceased members to vent political frustration.

“I am a little disappointed that some NC MLAs have spoken against people who are no longer in this world,” Sharma said. “There is a proper time to discuss the lives and contributions of those who have passed away, but obituary references should never be politicised.”

The BJP leader said that the NC had lost focus on maintaining the decorum of the legislature and was instead engaging in politically motivated behaviour.

“Unfortunately, the NC leaders are saddened because their homes are being demolished,” Sharma said.

His comments came amid heightened political activity, as parties intensify their efforts to secure support among MLAs ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls.
