Srinagar, July 2: National Conference (NC) State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar on Tuesday sought enhancement of stipend given to MBBS interns, saying the current amount falls short of meeting their basic needs.

Echoing the sentiments of the aggravated MBBS interns, Imran said the meager stipend currently being provided to them fails short to meet even their most basic needs. "MBBS interns work relentless hours under immense pressure. Their stipend barely covers essentials like rent, food, and transportation. While some may view them as students, their responsibilities closely mirror those of junior doctors," he said.

In a fervent plea to support the future saviors of our health care system, Imran argued that for many years, MBBS interns in Jammu and Kashmir have received a monthly stipend of approximately Rs 12,500. While interns elsewhere in the country have seen manifold increases, J&K has lagged behind.” In 2021, the Union Health Ministry hiked stipends for interns in Central Government institutions to Rs 26,300 per month. Naturally, the interns of J&K are demanding parity. Therefore stipend must be significantly increased. It is imperative that we value and adequately compensate these dedicated medical professionals who work tirelessly," he said.
