Srinagar, Oct 12: The Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) on Sunday elected Nazrul Islam Baba as the interim president of the association as the former president Ghulam Nabi Var announced retirement from the post.

A statement of the PSAJK issued here said that Baba was elected through an internal election conducted by PSAJK for the interim president.

“After a transparent voting process conducted through a secret ballot, Nazrul Islam Baba was elected as interim president after the election was held in a democratic and cordial atmosphere,” the statement said.

It said that the members from across different districts participated in the voting and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the private education sector in the region.

“The outgoing president was given a special standing ovation in recognition of his outstanding contributions, visionary leadership, and dedicated service to the cause of private education in Jammu and Kashmir,” the statement said.

“His efforts in upholding educational standards and safeguarding the interests of private institutions were deeply appreciated by all members,” it said.

The members of the association extended their heartfelt congratulations to Nazrul Islam Baba on his election and expressed confidence that under his leadership, PSAJK would continue to work towards excellence, transparency, and reform in the private education sector.

“The newly-elected interim president thanked the members for their trust and assured his full dedication to carry forward the mission of the association with renewed energy and vision,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Ghulam Nabi Var, the long-serving president of PSAJK, announced his retirement after more than 15 years of leadership.

“His decision, driven by personal reasons and new professional commitments, marks the end of an extraordinary era that transformed the educational landscape of Jammu and Kashmir,” the PSAJK statement said.

“Throughout his remarkable journey, Var emerged as the voice, strength, and guardian of private education in the region. He stood firm during the most challenging times, safeguarding the interests of schools, teachers, and students alike,” it said.
