Navy’s MARCOS start operation to retrieve body of man from Jhelum

Srinagar, Mar 1: Search operation to retrieve body of a man from river Jhelum at Safa Kadal locality in Downtown continued for the second day.

Officials said that on Thursday, a 55-year-old man jumped into Jhelum. Multiple teams from Police and SDRF were pressed in to launch the search operation.

Officials said that Nazir Ahmad Matoo of Tangbagh Eidgah jumped into Jhelum following which a search operation was started. An official said that in addition to SDRF, officials pressed Navy’s MARCOS Commandos and River police to retrieve the body from the river.

“Multiple boats and other equipment were deployed, and teams have been trying to locate the body. There is no success so far, and the teams are scanning the river to fish out the body,” said a police official.

Officials said that divers were deployed to scan the area properly, and the operation is on. He said that they are hopeful to retrieve the body soon.
