National Voters Day celebrated in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 25: In connection with National Voters Day, a voters pledge was taken in the SP College auditorium.

The ceremony was presided over by Principal of the College, Prof Dr Ghulam Jeelani Qurashi.

The Principal enlightened the audience about the importance of vote and how our vote can shape the future of the country.

The Pledge ceremony was attended by Teaching, Non-Teaching and Local fund employees in both online and offline mode.

Another function was held at Amar Singh College Srinagar. The day-long programme was presided over by Prof Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal of the College, and featured two major competitions - the Speech Competition and the Essay Writing Competition, providing a platform for the students to express their thoughts and ideas on the theme of National Voters Day-2024.

Dr Syed Ajaz Farid (Head, PG Department of Geography) delivered the formal welcome address and deliberated on the importance of the programme in generating awareness among the students regarding their role in the electoral process and community service.

Prof Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Principal of the College while speaking on the occasion underscored the importance of getting registered as a voter and also administered a pledge to the participating students and staff.

Students demonstrated their oratory skills in speech completion on the theme “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure”. The participating students eloquently articulated their view points while Prof Tawheed Yousuf and Prof Rayees Ahmad Magray acted as jury members. Amana of 1st semester bagged the 1st position whereas Nida Shakeel and Khateeba bagged the 2nd and 3rd positions.

Finally, an essay competition was conducted in which several students participated. The panel of judges, comprising faculty members of the college, evaluated the essays based on clarity of thought, coherence and the ability to articulate a strong viewpoint.

Ishfaq Ahmad Mir of 5th semester got the 1st position followed by Auqib Jehangir Khan of BCA 1st semester with 2nd position and Mohammad Sahir Raza with 3rd position.

Gandhi Memorial College, Srinagar in collaboration with the District Administration, Srinagar also celebrated National Voters Day, here.

The event was attended by the Principal Prof (Dr) G M Lone, Joint Commissioner SMC, Syed Sahib, Tehsildar South, Booth Level Officers, and a substantial number of students.

The event commenced with a solemn Pledge Taking Ceremony, administered by Prof Mohammad Zubair Ud Din. The chief guest, Joint Commissioner SMC, stressed the imperative for those reaching 18 years to register as voters, emphasizing the pivotal role of voting in fostering positive change in the country.
