National Tourism Day celebrated at Sonamarg

Sonamarg, Jan 25: The picturesque destination of Sonamarg played host to the celebration of National Tourism Day on Thursday, bringing together various stakeholders in a display of enthusiasm and commitment to the tourism industry.

Amidst the breathtaking landscapes, participants from different sectors joined hands to observe and commemorate the significance of tourism, highlighting its impact on local economies and cultural exchange. The event aimed to promote the beauty and potential of Sonamarg as a tourist destination, fostering collaboration among stakeholders for the sustainable growth of the tourism sector.

A lot of enthusiasm was shown by the participants during the event.

Chief Executive Officer Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) Ilyas Ahmad was the chief guest on the occasion. The highlights of the event were Ice Skating displays by skaters, sensitisation of stakeholders regarding responsible tourism and a sanitation drive was also held.

Besides a display of the ice skating equipment purchased by the local hotel association for the promotion of winter sports in Sonamarg was also done which was appreciated from every quarter. The event among others was attended by hoteliers, representatives of the Pony Association, the adventure tourism association and representatives of the Ice Skating Association of J&K.

The event sought to further promote tourism in Sonamarg by showcasing the diverse attractions it has to offer besides promoting adventure and winter tourism. The hoteliers, stakeholders, visitors and locals also got an opportunity to enjoy the demonstrations of ice skating by local and national level skaters. This thrilling activity added an element of adventure to the celebrations and will attract more tourists to Sonamarg. The combination of the presence of stakeholders and the inclusion of ice skating made the celebration of National Tourism Day in Sonamarg a memorable experience for everyone involved.

The Department of Tourism and SDA also highlighted a few of the futuristic plans including prepaid systems for pony rides etc. which will be a positive step for tourism promotion and adoption of best practices in the area.
