Srinagar, Dec 13: A National Lok Adalat was held today at Kangan under the directions and supervision of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal, to ensure speedy and amicable resolution of disputes.

The Lok Adalat Bench was headed and presided over by Moonis Wahid, Munsiff/Judicial Magistrate, Kangan, who is also the Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Kangan and Advocate Suhail Ahmad Mir served as a Bench Member.

During the Lok Adalat, cases relating to civil disputes, compoundable criminal matters, electricity-related issues, and traffic challans were taken up. With the cooperation of litigants and concerned departments, the cases were settled through mutual consent.

In total, 338 cases were settled, resulting in a significant reduction in pendency. A fine amounting to approximately Rs 36,00,370 was realised.

The National Lok Adalat at Kangan reaffirmed the effectiveness of Lok Adalats as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, providing timely, cost-effective, and accessible justice to the public.
