Nation to celebrate 79th Independence Day at Red Fort

New Delhi, Aug 13: The country will mark its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading celebrations from the Red Fort in Delhi. The theme for this year is Naya Bharat, reflecting the government’s vision of building a developed nation by 2047. The Prime Minister will be received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh before inspecting a combined Guard of Honour comprising personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police. The Indian Air Force is coordinating this year’s ceremony.

Flying Officer Rashika Sharma will assist in hoisting the National Flag, accompanied by a 21-gun salute from the 1721 Field Battery and a ‘Rashtriya Salute’ by an inter-services guard. Two Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopters will shower flower petals, with one carrying the national flag and the other a flag depicting Operation Sindoor.

This year’s celebrations will especially highlight the success of Operation Sindoor. The logo of the operation will be displayed at Gyanpath, and floral decorations will be based on its theme. Invitation cards for the event also carry the Operation Sindoor logo and a watermark of the Chenab bridge, symbolising the rise of Naya Bharat.

Following the flag hoisting, the Prime Minister will address the nation. Cadets from the National Cadet Corps and ‘My Bharat’ volunteers will form the Naya Bharat logo on Gyanpath and sing the National Anthem. Around 5,000 special guests from various fields, including sportspersons, award-winning farmers, entrepreneurs, social workers, and beneficiaries of government schemes, have been invited to witness the ceremony.
