Srinagar, May 29: The Narparistan road in the Fateh Kadal area of Srinagar has become a major source of frustration for residents, who say the crucial connector has been left in a deplorable condition with no repairs in sight for years.

A delegation of residents informed Greater Kashmir that the road's dilapidated state, riddled with potholes, frequently causes accidents.

"For the past three years, there has been no macadamization done on this stretch, which has become a huge concern for us. The road is not convenient for travel, and we see frequent accidents due to the dumpy and uneven surface," said Abdul Rashid Khan, a local resident.

Another resident, who chose to remain anonymous, stated that the road becomes nearly impassable during rains due to severe water logging issues. "Runoff flowing from other areas creates unsanitary conditions along the stretch," they added.

While drainage work was carried out three years ago, the residents said the subsequent repaving has never been completed, leaving behind a heavily damaged thoroughfare.

Commuters, too, are facing a tough time navigating the battered road. "It seems authorities have forgotten this stretch and left the people to suffer," they lamented.

The poor condition not only causes delays but also results in vehicle damage. "The bad condition of roads gives commuters a tough time and consumes a lot of their time reaching from one place to another. Passenger vehicles have suffered damages," they said.

During dry weather, the road's extremely poor state results in dust clouds, residents said. "The dust enters residential houses and makes it difficult to breathe, especially for those commuting on foot and riding two-wheelers."

The aggrieved residents have appealed to the authorities to undertake immediate repairs of the Narparistan road stretch.
