Srinagar, Nov 19: In a major boost to quality healthcare standards in J&K, the Department of Biochemistry, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and its associated SMHS Hospital, in collaboration with the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and Quality Council of India (QCI), is organizing a day-long Awareness Programme on “NABL Accreditation for Medical Laboratories” today.

Mallika Gope, Director, NABL will deliver the special address, along with Ritu Kulshreshtha, Joint Director, NABL. The programme comes at a significant moment. The Biochemistry Laboratory of SMHS Hospital remains the only government-sector medical laboratory in the entire J&K to have earned the prestigious NABL accreditation as per ISO 15189:2022 standards. The accreditation is internationally recognized and symbolizes reliability, accuracy, and trust in diagnostic services. Speaking ahead of the event, Prof. (Dr.) Sabhiya Majid, Organizing Chairperson and Head of the Department of Biochemistry, GMC Srinagar, stated, “NABL accreditation is not just a certificate; it is a commitment to excellence. We are proud that our SMHS Biochemistry Laboratory stands as a beacon in the government sector,” she said. The program scheduled for Thursday, she said, will help demystify the accreditation process and encourage more laboratories across J&K to adopt global best practices.
