Ganderbal , Dec 28: The tradition of communal harmony continues in Kashmir, with the local Muslim community coming together to perform the last rites of Kartar Singh, a Sikh resident who passed away on Sunday at Gadoora area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

They said that soon after the news of his death spread in the area, local Muslims made special arrangements in performing his last rites. “They also ferried firewood for helping the family to cremate the deceased.” Touched by the gesture of local Muslims, the deceased Sikh’s relatives said, “We have been working in Kashmir from the past many decades. I am overwhelmed by the approach of locals. They are great human beings. People across India should learn the principles of humanity from the people of Kashmir.”

Residents of Gadoora highlighted the long-standing bond of unity that has endured through the challenges in J&K. “We have always shared our joys and sorrows, and today was no different. It was our duty and responsibility to stand with the bereaved family during this difficult time,” said Ghulam Nabi, a local resident. The locals emphasised the need to preserve this brotherhood, which has long been a defining feature of Kashmir. They expressed their condolences, prayed for the departed soul’s peace, and pledged to continue fostering unity among all communities.
