Murder case | Fugitive arrested after 16 years in Kishtwar

Jammu, June 2: In a significant breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Sunday stated to have apprehended a most wanted fugitive, who had been evading arrest for the past 16 years in a murder case, in Kishtwar district.

The absconder was wanted in connection with case FIR No 134/08, under sections 364/302 RPC and 7/27 I. A. Act, for the killing of one Bashir Ahmed, former Sarpanch of Nagni Ghad Keshwan.

A police spokesperson said that acting on a special tip-off, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar formed a special team led by SHO Kishtwar under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kishtwar.

The team conducted a raid at the suspected location and successfully apprehended the fugitive namely Mir Hussain, son of Ballia Gujjar, resident of Keshwan tehsil and district Kishtwar.

He will now be produced before the court for trial in this case.

“This meticulously planned operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the J&K Police to bring long-standing absconders to justice and ensure the safety and security of the region,” spokesperson said.

SSP Kishtwar, meanwhile, has issued a stern warning to all absconders, urging them to surrender immediately. He has emphasized that strict action will be taken against all those who continue to evade the law.
