Multispeciality health camp marks International Day of Older Persons in Baramulla
Baramulla, Oct 28: To mark the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP-2025), a day-long multispeciality health camp for senior citizens was organised at Arampora, Baramulla, under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The event was jointly organised by RRTC Anugraha (Delhi) and Moul Mouj Foundation (MMF), with local support from GK Labs and Chinar International.
The camp provided comprehensive health screening, medical consultations, and awareness sessions for elderly participants, covering non-communicable diseases, dental and eye care, cardiac health, and general wellness. Free blood tests, ECGs, and medicines were also provided.
In a unique initiative, students accompanied their grandparents to the camp, promoting intergenerational bonding and awareness among youth about the needs and challenges of older persons. The interaction was aimed at cultivating empathy and a sense of shared responsibility toward senior citizens.
Dr Zubair Saleem, Senior Geriatric Consultant and Chairman of the Moul Mouj Foundation, thanked Dr Jahangir Bakshi, Director of Health Services Kashmir, for extending support and permission for the event. He said such camps not only raise awareness about preventive healthcare but also enable early diagnosis and evidence-based management of age-related health issues. He also briefed participants on precautions to prevent winter-related ailments among seniors.
In her message, Dr Aabha Chaudhary, Chairperson of Anugraha (Delhi), called for more regular outreach and advocacy efforts to safeguard the health and well-being of the elderly, describing such camps as “a bridge between community awareness and accessible healthcare.”
Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that they learned about the reasons seniors are more sensitive to cold, the importance of balanced nutrition and physical activity, and the harmful impact of hookah consumption—prompting some to pledge to quit.
Continuing its commitment to elderly care, the Moul Mouj Foundation identified five senior citizens during the event for free lifelong treatment and follow-up under its Lifetime Privilege Card programme.
