Srinagar, Aug 13: As Kashmir prepares for the Independence Day celebrations, the security apparatus has been significantly bolstered to ensure smooth and peaceful events across the Valley.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi on Tuesday said that the multi-tier security arrangements had been put in place for safe and smooth functions related to the Independence Day.

“The Independence Day functions are currently underway, and today, in all districts of Kashmir, full dress rehearsals, as well as security rehearsals, were conducted. We have established multi-tier security arrangements to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the functions,” IGP Kashmir said after taking a salute at the march past of full dress rehearsal here at Bakshi Stadium.

The primary venue for the Independence Day celebrations in Srinagar is the Bakshi Stadium, where unprecedented security measures have been put in place.

“Bakshi Stadium, the venue of the main Independence Day function in Srinagar, has been fortified with multi-tier security arrangements,” V K Birdi said.

About the recent terror activities in J&K, he assured that the security arrangements had been meticulously planned, taking into account the current security situation.

“Foolproof security arrangements are being made, keeping in view the present situation,” the IGP Kashmir said. “The adversary may attempt subversive activities, but the security grid has prepared a calibrated plan to ensure that such inimical elements do not succeed.”

In addition to the main event, security has been heightened for cultural and other programmes scheduled across the districts of Kashmir.

Regular security checkpoints have been established at various strategic locations to maintain a high level of vigilance.

On Tuesday, Srinagar witnessed heightened security measures, with security forces conducting random vehicle checks along various routes.

These actions are part of the broader strategy to ensure incident-free celebrations.

“The enthusiasm among the people is high ahead of the Independence Day celebrations,” Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said.

He said that there was no need for special permission to attend the main event at Bakshi Stadium. “Everyone is welcome, and entry is free,” he said.

The rehearsal concluded with a cultural programme featuring performances by artists and schoolchildren, showcasing the rich diversity of J&K.
