Mulberry Tech Demo held in Kupwara to boost sericulture practices
Kupwara, Sep 6: A field technology demonstration on mulberry technologies was held at Saflipora, Langate under the Central Silk Board’s national campaign “Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan”, jointly organised by the Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute (CSR&TI), Pampore, and the Sericulture Development Department (SDD), J&K.
As per the statemnt issued here, around 30 seri-farmers participated in the programme, which aimed to give hands-on exposure to modern sericulture techniques and disease management practices.
Dr Pawan Saini, Scientist-D at CSR&TI Pampore, conducted practical demonstrations on mulberry propagation through stem-cuttings and grafting to improve plantation efficiency. Live demos on the use of Sanitech disinfectant, shalked lime powder, and Vijetha Bed disinfectant were also held to highlight disease prevention and hygienic silkworm rearing.
Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, Sericulture Assistant at SDD, briefed farmers about government schemes and urged them to adopt scientific practices and collaborative approaches during rearing seasons.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, where farmers shared feedback and discussed challenges, strengthening dialogue between researchers and grassroots practitioners.
Officials said the initiative reinforces ongoing efforts to empower seri-farmers, promote technology transfer, and sustain rural livelihoods through sericulture.
