Mughal Road reopens for traffic after 2 days
Rajouri, Dec 18: The Mughal Road, connecting Poonch district with Shopian district in Kashmir and acting as an alternate to the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, reopened for traffic on Monday afternoon, after remaining closed for two days due to snowfall and slippery conditions.
The road passing through the high mountainous passes of Pir Ki Gali was closed early Saturday morning after fresh snowfall, amid bad weather conditions.
The Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Department launched snow clearance work on the road on Sunday morning which was completed late evening, the same day.
Meanwhile, officials said that the road was opened for traffic on Monday afternoon and the vehicles plied without any disruption.
DTI Traffic Police, Mughal Road, Kapil Manhas said, “Snow clearance work was completed late Sunday evening but the road was not opened for movement of vehicles due to severe frost and slippery conditions.”
He said that frosty and slippery conditions were reduced on the road after the sun shone on Monday afternoon after which the road was opened for movement of vehicles.
The DTI said, “So far only 10 vehicles crossed the road on Monday while an increase in vehicular traffic is likely on Tuesday in case of fair weather.”
