Mughal Road opening may get delayed
Rajouri, Mar 27: Small snow slides that occurred during the last 24 hours partially affected the ongoing snow clearance operation on the Mughal Road with 300 meters of road stretch cleared on Wednesday and a 1 km stretch now pending to reach Pir Ki Gali from Poonch side.
The snow clearance work by the Mechanical Engineering Department is ongoing and 42.3 km of road from Bufliyaz side was cleared till Tuesday evening.
Assistant Engineer in the Mechanical Engineering Department, Tariq Ahmad told Greater Kashmir that many small slides occurred on the road in the last 2 km stretch at PKG side and the deployed machinery cleared these slides due to which only 300 meters of road stretch had been cleared on Wednesday.
He said that now 1 km of road stretch is pending to reach Pir Ki Gali.
Ahmad said that fresh rainfall started in the area on Wednesday evening and work was expected to be affected if the rainfall continued.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Executive Engineer Mughal Road Projects, Shokat Ali said that the Mechanical Engineering Department was carrying out the work but fresh rainfall had started on Wednesday evening.
“Although we are expecting the restoration of the road by the month's end, there is a forecast of rainfall in the next few days and heavy rainfall can cause some delay in restoration,” he said.
