Mughal Road closure completes a week
Rajouri, Jan 3: The Mughal Road closure completed a week on Friday.
The road connecting the Poonch district with the Shopian district is expected to remain closed till its surface improves in terms of slippery conditions.
The road was closed last Friday after fresh snowfall in the area with the Mechanical Engineering Department concluding the snow clearance work on Monday but the road could not be restored till now.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Surankote, Farooq Khan Nazki told Greater Kashmir that frost-like conditions causing severe slips on the road have led to continuous closure of the road.
He said that the road is expected to remain closed till there is improvement in the road surface.
Nazki said that for the last three days, the road has been shut due to frost and slippery conditions.
“We cannot permit normal traffic on the road till there is improvement in its surface. Presently, the road is highly prone to accidents,” he said.
The SDM said that a joint team of Police, Traffic Police, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the Mechanical Engineering Department, and the local executive magistrate conduct twin inspections of the road every day to check its condition.
“We will conduct an inspection on Saturday morning and take a decision on whether to restore the road by afternoon or not,” he said.
