Mughal Road closed amid slippery conditions
Rajouri, Dec 9: The Mughal Road continued to remain closed for the movement of all types of vehicles as slippery conditions forced the authorities to keep restrictions on traffic even though the snow clearance work was completed on Monday evening.
The Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Department initiated snow clearance work on
the Mughal Road on Monday morning, which was closed since Sunday evening due to heavy snowfall.
The road, a vital connectivity link, was blocked from Chatta Pani Bridge to Pir Ki Gali.
The snow clearance work by the Mechanical Engineering Department lasted till late afternoon hours after which snow was cleared from Chatta Pani Bridge to Pir Ki Gali but the surface of the road turned severely slippery due to frost, forcing the authorities to keep the road closed.
“Although snow clearance work was completed, the road is still closed due to slippery conditions as frost has accumulated despite a sprinkling of salt,” Sub Divisional Magistrate, Surankote, Farooq Khan told Greater Kashmir.
He said that if the weather remains fair, traffic on the road would be restored on Tuesday.
Mughal Road connects Pir Panjal region’s Poonch and Rajouri districts to south Kashmir’s Shopian district and the road’s closure affects trade and commerce in the region.
