The 90 km long road from Bufliyaz in Poonch to Heerpora in Shopian acts as an alternate to the Srinagar Jammu National Highway.
The road gets closed in winter every year due to the accumulation of snow and the government authorities kick start snow clearance work with the onset of the spring season every year.
The J&K Mechanical Engineering Department is carrying out a snow clearance operation over the road which was started a week and a half ago and is going on at full pace.
Executive Engineer of the Mughal Road Project, Shokat Ali said that almost 35 km stretch of road had already been cleared and the work was going on.
He said that the road stretch on the side of Poonch district was almost 43 km and the last 7 to 8 km was the most challenging one as the level of accumulated snow was most in this area.
Ali said that with the pace of work, the road would be cleared of snow in the first or second week of April after which the concerned authorities including civil Administration and Police would take a call on the decision to start the movement of vehicles.
