Mufti Nazir Ahmad Qasmi suffers heart attack, hospitalised

Bandipora, May 23: Renowned Islamic scholar and Sheikh-ul-Hadith, Maulana Mufti Nazir Ahmad Qasmi, suffered a major heart attack on Friday, morning.

Qasmi had complained of a severe chest ache at Daraul Uloom Raheemiya, the largest Islamic seminary in north Kashmir's Bandipora, where he teaches.

Qasmi was shifted to district hospital (DH) Bandipora, where from he was shifted to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.

Spokesperson of the seminary Moulvi Fayaz Ahamd told Greater Kashmir that Qasmi is "out of danger." He added, "He is feeling better, conscious and even talking."

"It was a major heart attack and doctors have also assured us all is okay," the spokesperson said. "I was with him a moment ago," he added.

Earlier his son Idrees Ahmad issued a statement on social media saying, "Hazrat Maulana Mufti Nazir Ahmad Sahib Qasmi...suffered a major heart attack today."

He added, "due to the grace and mercy of Allah, the payers of his friends, and the timely attention and expertise of the doctors, the situation is out of danger".

He said Qasmi was undergoing treatment in the ICU.

In a gratitude note, the statement further reads, "I am extremely grateful to Allah Almighty and sincerely grateful to the doctors, especially Dr Aamir," and other senior doctors”.

In a request to masses, Idrees requested for "special prayers" from all for his full recovery.

Meanwhile, all his scheduled programs have been canceled for the time being.
