Srinagar, Nov 2: The Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) has expressed appreciation for the timely intervention of the Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) and the administration in addressing the issue of muck accumulation along the Sazgaripora stretch of Khushalsar.

Wangnoo said that this was the same site that was earlier this year inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor under Mission Ehsaas.

Following NLCO’s appeal and a subsequent meeting between Chairman NLCO, Manzoor Wangnoo, and the Vice-Chairman LCMA, the department immediately mobilised dumpers and staff to lift the muck that had been causing inconvenience to commuters and obstructing road movement.

“The swift response has brought a great sigh of relief to the residents and all stakeholders working for the preservation of urban lakes. The LCMA team acted promptly despite ongoing budgetary and logistical constraints, demonstrating strong commitment to environmental management and public cooperation,” Wangnoo said.

Wangnoo commended the proactive leadership of the VC LCMA and the dedicated efforts of officers and field workers on site, describing it as “an example of responsive governance and teamwork in action. “Such coordination between civil society and government institutions strengthens our shared mission of reviving and sustaining the twin urban lakes — Gilsar and Khushalsar — for future generations.”

Wangnoo also hailed the construction of a jetty at the Sazgaripora side of Khushalsar by LCMA as a welcome step, noting that it will help stakeholders reconnect with the lake.
