MP Mian Altaf urges relief, rehabilitation for Mendhar land-sinking victims
Srinagar, Sep 12: National Conference MP Mian Altaf Ahmad on Friday called for immediate relief and rehabilitation measures for families hit by land sinking in the Kalabanaban area of Mendhar, Poonch district, where dozens of houses have been damaged and villagers displaced.
As per a statement issued, Mian Altaf said that a huge population had been affected by the land sinking in the Kalaban area, where dozens of residential houses have been fully and partially damaged in the last few days.
Mian Altaf said, "The landslide has impacted many residential houses. Over two dozen houses have been totally damaged by the landslide, while around 15-20 houses have developed cracks. The whole area has become unsafe."
The incident has not only sparked fear in the area but also caused a large-scale loss of property for villagers who have suffered not only the damage of hundreds of Kanals of land but also dozens of structures.
Mian Altaf urged the administration to provide immediate relief and necessary facilities to the affected families who have been relocated or shifted to other safer places.
Besides, the government should take necessary measures for their rehabilitation. Mian Altaf said that the government should depute a team of experts to the area to assess the reasons for land sinking and necessary remedial measures to mitigate the land-sinking issue.
