MP Mian Altaf seeks MEA’s help to safeguard Kashmiri students stuck in Bangladesh

Altaf said that he would also raise this issue with the Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi.

Srinagar, July 21: The Member of Parliament (MP) and National Conference (NC) leader Mian Altaf Ahmad has expressed concern over the situation arising in Bangladesh and has sought the help of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, to ensure the safety of students from Kashmiri stuck in protest-hit Bangladesh.

In a statement issued here, the Member of Parliament from Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, Mian Altaf sought the intervention of Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to ensure the safety of students who are from different parts of J&K and other people who are working there and stuck in protest-hit Bangladesh. Altaf said that the ongoing situation in Bangladesh and witnessing protests from the student community was deeply concerning.

“I urge the Government of India to take urgent measures for the safety of our students studying there. I also urge the Ministry of External Affairs S Jaishankar to ensure their safety and, if needed, make arrangements to bring them back,” he said.

Altaf said that thousands of Kashmiri students were pursuing medical degrees in colleges in Bangladesh and their parents had been unable to contact them while some were there for business purposes.

“The Government of India should take necessary steps to ensure their safety,” he said.

Altaf said that he would also raise this issue with the Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi.
