Mount View Colony inhabitants decry haphazard construction of drainage system
Srinagar, Mar 27: Residents of Mount View Colony at Zakura locality on city outskirts have decried the haphazard construction of the drainage system in the locality.
A group of aggrieved residents said that the absence of proper drainage in the colony has pestered them for the last several years. The residents said that during downpour, the main road of the colony is waterlogged which has been causing immense inconvenience to them.
One of the residents said that after locals reached out to the authorities, they started work by digging the road to make a surface water drain.
“However, for over a week, the work has not progressed. We are left with a dug-up road, and it is posing risk to inhabitants. We have a school in the vicinity, and young students also facing hardships due to dug-up road. During downpour, we have to walk under ankle-height water because there is no outlet for water,” said a local.
The locals said that since the construction work started, the dug-up road has severely affected smooth traffic flow. “When the road was dug up, drinking water supply was also affected temporarily.
The officials said that they would fix it properly once the drain is constructed. We hope that authorities will pick up the work and ensure it is completed in time,” they said.
The locals appealed to the authorities to complete the work without any delay for the convenience to residents.
