Piles of unattended garbage behind the government quarters in the Mattan Chowk area have become a persistent problem, causing major inconvenience to commuters and shopkeepers.

The heaps of waste have grown so large that they have blocked the back entrance of the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department quarters. Drainage systems have also clogged, emitting a foul odor that makes the area unpleasant for residents and visitors alike.

“We have repeatedly requested municipal authorities to clear the garbage, but our pleas have gone unheard,” complained local shopkeepers. They urged authorities to install dustbins at the site to prevent further dumping and emphasised their willingness to cooperate in keeping the area clean.

“This issue affects everyone here, and we hope the authorities take swift action to address it,” they said.
