Mosque: an abode of piety and accord
Mosque—a place of prayer is an abode of piety. The place of prayer is a structure that needs to be purpose built. It ought to breed accord, rather than discord. Mosques built for breeding discord and promoting schism amongst the believers belie the purpose they ought to base upon, as is laid down:
‘’Then there are those who establish a mosque to cause harm, and disbelief, and disunity among believers, and as an outpost for those who fight God and his Messenger. They will swear: Our intentions are nothing but good. But God bears witness that they are liars’’ (9:107)
There may be some who out of sheer hypocrisy erect a mosque to show that they are true believers. But their real purpose of building the mosque is to damage the Divine Order and cause a split among believers.
A mosque that is not purpose built to promote piety and accord becomes a base for operations against the Divine System—the system that desires unity amongst the believers. Though they may swear that their intentions are nothing but good, however real intention of breeding discord and promoting schismcannot escape the Divine Scrutiny—God knows what they are up to.
There is a Divine Injunction for not standing in a place promoting discord. Only the mosque founded on ‘Taqwa’ could be taken as a place, worthy of standing in, as is enjoined in the Ayah following the one quoted above:
‘’Do not stand in it, ever. A mosque founded upon piety from the day one is worthier of your standing in it. In it are men who love to be purified. God loves those who love to be purified’’ (9:108)
Mosques worthy of your presence are the ones that have been founded on ‘Taqwa’ from the very inception and arefrequented by those who are pure from all types of factions and schisms—they remain the purified ones, the ones loved by God.
