Srinagar, April 09: Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Thursday, 11 April 2024, in India as Shawaal has not been sighted in the country, announced Imam Ahmad Bukhari, Shahi Imam, Jama Masjid Delhi.

The sighting of the crescent moon marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid ul-Fitr, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar.

The sighting of the Eid crescent holds special significance for Muslims, as it marks the end of a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and reflection. Eid ul-Fitr, often referred to as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is celebrated with joyous gatherings, special prayers, and feasting with family and friends.

Crescent has, however, been sighted in Kargil, as per Jamiat-ul-Ulama Isna Ashria Kargil, Ladakh. Therefore, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow,10 April 2024 in Kargil, Ladakh.

In neighbouring Pakistan, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, along with provincial and district-level committees, has deployed teams to different parts of the country to sight the Eid crescent. The committees receive testimonies from witnesses who claim to have spotted the new moon, and decisions regarding the commencement of Eid are made based on these reports.

There are mixed reports of sightings of the crescent from various parts of the country. The Hilal Committee is expected to take a final call on the testimonies soon.

Meanwhile, Mufti Azam, Jammu and Kashmir, has asked people to delay Taraweeh prayers for some time as they were verifying the reports of crescent sightings.
