Ramban, Apr 27: MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Raju Sunday announced a relief package of Rs 1 crore for the flash flood affected areas of Ramban district, from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Making this announcement, in a press conference, MLA said that the National Conference government decided to repair and rebuild the houses damaged due to the torrential rains, and flash-floods in several Panchayats of Ramban district.

MLA said that link roads, paths, lanes, drains, protection walls etc would be constructed with his assistance of Rs 1 crore from his CDF and this would be in addition to the financial assistance provided by the government under SDRF and other funds.

He said that although for the time being, the government had already provided Rs 1 lakh as ex-gratia to the kin of each of the three persons who died in the incident, more compensation would be given to them under SDRF and other JK UT and Central government funds.

While thanking Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for visiting thrice in the affected areas of Ramban to take first-hand information of damages and reviewing the restoration and relief work, Raju said that at his behest, 250 labourers were engaged to clear the debris and muck from the affected houses and streets.

ìWater tankers were also supplied to wash the paths and also to provide clean drinking water in the affected areas. So far, there are reports of damage to 400 structures and the death of hundreds of cattle and bovines in Ramban. However, the assessment of damages is going on by the special designated teams,î MLA said.

He advised the people to construct their houses in safer areas and not beside the nallahs.
