MLA Mir Saifullah inspects NTPHC Nagri amid ADD outbreak

Kupwara, Jul 13: Amid a surge in Acute Diarrhoeal Disease (ADD) cases in north Kashmir’s Nagri area, MLA Trehgam and senior National Conference leader Mir Saifullah Sunday visited the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) Nagri to take stock of the healthcare response and infrastructure.

During his visit, Saifullah interacted with the medical staff and assessed the availability of essential medicines, diagnostic services, and manpower at the facility. He conducted a thorough inspection of wards, emergency services, and sanitation arrangements, stressing the need for preparedness in the face of the growing health crisis.

Residents of the area expressed concern over the lack of adequate healthcare services, reportedly triggered by the consumption of contaminated water. They appealed for immediate measures to ensure clean drinking water and urged Saifullah to press the administration for better coordination between the Health and Jal Shakti departments.

Locals also demanded that NTPHC Nagri be made operational round-the-clock, especially in light of the ongoing public health emergency.

“This facility should not function like a routine day centre when people are falling ill during night hours as well,” a resident said.

Speaking to media persons, Saifullah called for swift intervention by district authorities.

“The situation demands immediate attention. The administration must ensure uninterrupted medical care, sufficient supply of medicines, and access to safe drinking water to prevent further spread,” he said.

The visit comes against the backdrop of more than 200 suspected cases of ADD reported from the Nagri area in recent days. The Health Department has since stepped up surveillance and response efforts to contain the outbreak.
