MLA Hostel partially damaged in fire incident
Srinagar, Dec 10: MLA Hostel near MA Road here was partially damaged in a fire incident today.
Officials of the Fire and Emergency Service said they received information about the incident at 11:51 am. on Tuesday.
They said that multiple fire tenders were rushed to the spot from Headquarters, Babademb, and Gawkadal to douse the flames. Assistant Director of Fire & Emergency Services Auqib Hussain said that upon arrival, the first two floors had caught fire.
“Prompt action by our fire and emergency units contained the fire in half an hour. The fire started in one of the rooms on the first floor and soon spread to other rooms. Several rooms were damaged in the incident. There is usually traffic congestion, which hiders the movement of fire tenders, but since traffic police also assist, that made it easy to reach quickly,” he said.
The officials said that the cause of fire is under investigation. They said there was not loss of life in the incident.
“However, one person was unconscious due to smoke, and he was rushed to hospital in the F&ES ambulance,” said another official.
Senior officials on the spot said that during winter, fire incidents spike, and urged public to use heating gadgets with caution. They also said that advisories issued by the Fire and Emergency Department should be followed strictly.
