Baramulla, Oct 20: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Baramulla, Javed Hassan Baig, Monday took his political battle beyond the ballot box. This time he has taken it into the corridors of the School Education Department (SED).

In a move that has drawn attention across the district, Javed Baig lodged a formal complaint against the officers of the education department in Baramulla for allegedly favouring individuals who had “actively campaigned against him” during the last Assembly elections.

Calling the matter “deeply personal,” the legislator has sought the intervention of Education Minister Sakina Itoo, urging corrective action against what he termed as “politically motivated indulgence” within the department.

"The education department often organises functions here but I (as MLA) am not seen in these functions because the officers invite those who were fighting against me in the last Assembly elections," Javed Baig said.

"With the grace of God I defeated them in the elections and did not allow them to reach the Assembly. But still the officers in the education department entertain them," Javed Baig said.

He urged the education minister, present at the occasion, to issue "strict instructions" to the officers regarding the matter.

"I am the public representative and the department should be afraid of those people and disrespect people's mandate," he said.

Meanwhile, impressed with the confidence of one of the lecturers, MLA Baramulla invited her to join the political career.

"The way she delivered the power point presentation, she was full of confidence. It seems she has been groomed in a proper way by parents," he said.

"Immediately after your retirement, you join our party because you can play a positive role in politics."

Later in her address, the minister asked the officers of the education department to respect the public mandate.

"I request the education officers to respect the public mandate. The MLA is the public representative, he has been elected by the people. Irrespective of the party, MLA should be honoured and be invited to every function," he said.
