Missing for over a week, Srinagar resident found dead in Ramban
Srinagar, Dec 30: A Srinagar resident, who was missing for over a week, has been found dead in a deep gorge in Digdool along the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said today.
A police official told Greater Kashmir that Police, SDRF and QRT Ramban volunteers launched a rescue operation after spotting a body and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) today afternoon.
SSP Ramban Kulbir Singh confirmed that the body is that of a Srinagar resident, Umar Yaseen Shah of Railway colony Nowgam Srinagar, who had been missing since Dec 22.
He said the deceased was missing along with a Thar vehicle bearing number JK-01AN / 9990 while traveling from Srinagar to Jammu.
Head of Quick Reaction Team (QRT), Ramban, Bashir Ahmed Magray, who is leading the operation, told Greater Kashmir over the phone from the spot that the rescue teams of police, SDRF and QRT Ramban recovered the body from a 300-ft deep gorge.
He said the Thar vehicle is lying in a damaged condition while they are searching for the registration plate, which is missing so far.
The body, he said, has been shifted to District Hospital Ramban for legal formalities.
He said they were searching the area for the missing person and the vehicle from the past four days after posters surfaced on social media suggesting that a Srinagar resident had gone missing.
He said the operation was launched after a resident collecting leaves for the livestock spotted the mangled vehicle and informed the local police.
