Mirwaiz grieved over Katra, Jammu flood tragedy; calls for foresight in disaster management
Srinagar, Aug 27: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of nearly 30 lives in Katra and several more casualties in parts of Jammu due to floods triggered by incessant rains.
Extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Mirwaiz prayed for patience and strength to help them bear the irreparable loss.
He expressed concern that despite weather warnings and alerts, vulnerable families were not moved to safer locations. “Warnings alone are not enough — people at risk must be identified and relocated. Authorities must act with foresight so that such loss of life is not repeated,” he said.
The Mirwaiz urged the administration to provide immediate relief to those affected and to evolve long-term strategies for protecting vulnerable communities from future calamities.
