He was elected Vice President of the World SnowShoe Federation in 2023 and, since 2024, has been serving as the Acting President of WSSF, overseeing the sport’s development and governance at the global level.
At this prestigious championship, Mir Muddasir will be the sole representative of India, as other members of the Indian contingent were unable to secure U.S. visas this time. During the event, he will preside over the WSSF Congress, where the new world body will be elected, and he is widely expected to be elected as the President of the World SnowShoe Federation.
In addition to attending the championship races, Mir will participate in the inauguration and closing ceremonies and hold interactions with athletes and officials from various countries converging in Wisconsin for the global event.
Mir Muddasir has earlier attended WSSF World SnowShoe Championships in Italy and Spain, and prior to that, he represented India as an official in Skiing at the Winter Olympics, Canada in 2010 , making him one of the most accomplished winter sports administrators from the region.
Expressing his pride on the occasion, Mir Muddasir said, “Representing India at the World SnowShoe Championship is a great honour and a proud moment not only for me but for Jammu & Kashmir and the entire country. Snowshoe sport has immense potential in India, especially in Himalayan regions. My presence at this world platform will help bring international exposure, technical knowledge, and opportunities that will significantly contribute to the development of snowshoe sports in India.”
He further added that India’s growing involvement at the world level would inspire youth from snow-bound regions to take up the sport professionally.
Meanwhile, SSFI Vice President Harish Kumar also lauded Mir’s participation, stating, “Mir Muddasir’s presence at the World SnowShoe Championship in the USA is a major boost for snowshoe sports in India. Snowshoe is one of the fastest-growing winter sports in the country, and his leadership at the global level will open new avenues for athlete development, international collaboration, and inclusion of India in major world events.”
He emphasized that Mir’s expected elevation to the post of WSSF President would mark a historic milestone for Indian winter sports.
The World SnowShoe Championship 2025 is set to witness participation from top athletes and officials across continents, and India’s representation through Mir Muddasir underscores the nation’s rising stature in global winter sports administration.
