Minor student rescued from non-functional lift at SSCL’s multi-level parking

Srinagar, Aug 10: A 14-year old student was stuck in a non-functional lift at Srinagar Smart City Ltd (SSCL’s) multi-level parking at Press Colony on Saturday.

Witnesses said the student had been pressing the lift buttons, due to which it suddenly opened. As the student entered the lift, it closed abruptly leaving him stranded.

A team of police officials from the concerned police station, along with a technical team, made efforts to open the lift and successfully rescued the student.

Meanwhile, commuters decried improper maintenance of the multiple parking. They said the non-functional lift has been there for a long time, and concerned authorities have failed to fix it.

“We are paying hefty parking fee but there is no proper maintenance of the lift. Authorities have spent crores of rupees to construct this facility, but for the want of maintenance, the lift is non-functional,” said Ishfaq Ahmad a commuter.

“After today’s incident, it is evident that it is also dangerous for children. Most of the school children board their school vehicles and private vehicles from this parking lot, which makes it problematic for them,” he added.

The commuters also said that stray dogs are on the prowl in the parking lot. They said that the issue is posing a threat to people, especially young school-going children.

“There is a lack of proper maintenance, which leads to these issues. Despite employees being present, there has been no progress in addressing the dog menace. There is fear of dog attacks, especially to commuters. We hope that authorities will look into the issue,” said another commuter.

They said the parking gates also close early, which causes inconvenience to commuters who want to park vehicles late in the evening.
