Minimum temperatures rise

Srinagar, Feb 13: Ahead of another wet spell from Sunday, Srinagar on Tuesday experienced a slight rise in minimum temperatures, yet remained below freezing, with the mercury dipping to minus 2.5 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) officials here said that in Srinagar, the temperature rose by more than 1 degree Celsius compared to the previous night, registering at minus 3.6 degrees Celsius.

Despite this increase, it remained 2.7 degrees Celsius below normal for this time of year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than the previous night’s minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, yet still 0.2 degrees Celsius below the average for the area.

Pahalgam health resort witnessed a low of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, a slight improvement from the previous night's minus 7 degrees Celsius, yet still 0.4 degrees Celsius below the norm.

Kokernag experienced a rise in temperature to minus 0.3 degrees Celsius, above normal by 1.2 degrees Celsius.

In Kupwara town of north Kashmir, temperatures reached minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees Celsius lower than usual.

Gulmarg skiing destination recorded a low of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, above normal by 1.7 degrees Celsius.

Jammu recorded a minimum of 8.4 degrees Celsius, below the seasonal average by 1.7 degrees Celsius.

Banihal saw temperatures drop to 1 degree Celsius while Batote and Bhaderwah to 3.7 degrees Celsius each.

The MeT forecasted mainly dry weather until February 17, followed by the likelihood of a wet spell from February 18 to 20 with the possibility of light to moderate snow or rain in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
