Mian Altaf concerned over sluggish pace of work on Jammu-Poonch highway
Srinagar, Nov 9: Member of Parliament (MP) Mian Altaf Ahmed has voiced his discontent over the sluggish pace of construction and the deteriorating condition of the strategically significant 220-km Jammu-Poonch highway.
In a statement, he emphasised that its poor condition has been causing considerable inconvenience to the public. The MP criticised the slow progress on this crucial project by the BRO, asserting that it has undermined the road’s strategic importance.
Mian Altaf called upon the responsible authorities to promptly address these issues and expedite necessary actions to improve road conditions. “These roads, crucial for connectivity within Jammu and Kashmir, are maintained by the Beacon, a unit of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). The highway is in dilapidated condition causing inconvenience to the public. The slow pace of work on this important project has marred the purpose of this strategic important road project,"he said.
The MP has sought immediate attention of the concerned authorities responsible for the maintenance and construction of the road projects along Jammu- Poonch Highway.
He said the Rajouri–Thanamandi–Bafliaz road holds a strategic significance and is important in connecting Srinagar with Jammu and various areas within the twin border districts. The NC leader said the road is currently in a dilapidated state and necessitates urgent intervention by the BRO.
