MeT predicts wet weather across J&K from today

Night temperatures show upward trend

Srinagar, Mar 10:  Amid forecasts of a wet spell from Monday, the night temperatures in Kashmir have shown a slight increase but continue to hover below normal levels, the Meteorological Department (MeT) officials said on Sunday.

The MeT has forecasted the possibility of light to moderate rain and snow at widespread places in Jammu and Kashmir on March 13.

This weather system is expected to be accompanied by thunder and lightning along with gusty winds.

On March 11, there is a possibility of light rain and snow at a few places while March 12 is expected to be partly to generally cloudy.

Following the rain and snow on March 13, the weather is likely to remain generally cloudy on March 14 with a possibility of light rain and snow at isolated places.

However, from March 15 to 18, generally dry weather is expected in the region.

The Meteorological Department has advised people living in hilly areas to avoid venturing into avalanche-prone areas and areas with slopes and to follow avalanche warnings and advisories.

The farmers have also been advised to resume farm operations in light of the forecasted weather conditions, which are subject to change.

The MeT officials here said that Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.2 degrees Celsius, up from minus 0.2 degrees Celsius the previous night.

Despite this increase, the temperature remained 1.1 degrees Celsius below normal for this time of year.

In Qazigund, the minimum temperature was recorded at 1.4 degrees Celsius compared to 0.4 degrees Celsius the previous night, indicating a deviation of 0.8 degrees Celsius below normal.

Pahalgam, in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius, which was 1.1 degrees below normal.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 1.8 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degrees Celsius below normal.

Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, indicating a deviation of 2.3 degrees Celsius below normal.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, below normal by 3.4 degrees Celsius for this time of the year.

Jammu recorded a minimum of 10.5 degrees Celsius, below normal by 3.5 degrees Celsius.

Banihal recorded a low of 8.2 degrees Celsius, Batote 8 degrees Celsius, and Bhaderwah 3.2 degrees Celsius.
