MeT predicts 2-day rain spell

Srinagar, Mar 20:  A Western Disturbance (WD) is expected to bring widespread light to moderate rain and snow to Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) officials here forecasted fairly widespread light to moderate rain in Kashmir and parts of the Jammu division over the next two days.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Weather, an independent forecaster, said, “Under the influence of a WD, light to moderate rain and snow is expected to commence in parts of Kashmir from Thursday afternoon onwards, and by the evening, most parts of Kashmir would have received a spell of rain or snow. Rain or snow activities can continue in some areas on March 22.”

The least impact of the WD is expected in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts, with a possibility of hailstorms and gusty winds in some areas during this period.

The MeT office also mentioned that the weather would generally remain dry on March 23, while it would turn generally cloudy with light rain and snow in a few places over J&K on March 24.

There's a prediction of light rain and snow in a few places on March 27 and 28 as well.

Despite the upcoming weather conditions, Wednesday in Kashmir remained pleasant with a bright sun shining amid the spring season and buds on flower trees blossoming in various parks and gardens.

The night temperature improved at most stations but remained below normal, while the day temperature was 5 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal in Kashmir the previous day.

Srinagar recorded a low of 4.2 degrees Celsius, which was 0.5 degrees Celsius below normal.

Qazigund had a low of 2.4 degrees Celsius and Kokernag recorded a low of 4 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam remained the coldest place in Kashmir Valley with a low of minus 1.1 degrees Celsius, while

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara recorded a low of 1.9 degrees Celsius with the MeT office reporting temperatures below normal in these divisions.
