Srinagar, Dec 24: The Muslim Educational Trust (MET) celebrated its 57th Foundation Day on Wednesday, marking more than five decades of unwavering commitment to the cause of education, social upliftment, and intellectual empowerment.

Founded on December 24, 1968 by the visionary educationist Professor Ghulam Rasool Bacha, the Muslim Educational Trust was established with a clear and noble mission: to start a movement for education and to impart education to everyone, without discrimination. Professor Bacha firmly believed that education is the most powerful instrument for individual growth, social harmony and national development, said a press release.

“At a time when access to quality education was limited for large sections of society, Professor Ghulam Rasool Bacha envisioned an institution that would bridge educational gaps and nurture enlightened, responsible citizens. His lifelong dedication to learning, discipline, and moral values laid the foundation of a trust that continues to inspire generations,” it said.

The Trust was a sustained effort to awaken minds, promote critical thinking, and enable individuals to realize their full potential through education. The Trust, from its inception, emphasised on skill development and empowerment of the weaker sections. MET’s financial support by way of scholarships and soft loans to hundreds of students to pursue higher studies in and outside of J&K, is a proud legacy, it added.

Guided by the founding principles of sincerity, service, and social responsibility, MET has consistently worked towards strengthening educational opportunities and encouraging a culture of learning,” it further added.

His belief that education should be accessible to all continues to shape MET’s policies and aspirations. On its 57th Foundation Day, the Muslim Educational Trust renews its commitment to the founding vision—education for all. With renewed energy and purpose, the Trust looks forward to expanding its efforts, embracing new challenges, and contributing meaningfully to the educational and social development of society, said the press release.
