Srinagar, Dec 5: Barring Kokernag in south Kashmir, mercury across Kashmir recorded further fall with Srinagar shivering at minus 1.4 degrees Celsius for the first time this winter.

“The minimum temperatures recorded further fall and cold conditions in Kashmir intensified,” the Meteorological Department (MeT) officials said here. “The mercury settled below freezing point at most places in Kashmir barring Kokernag.”

“Till December 7, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy,” they said. “From December 8 to 10 partly to generally cloudy weather is expected.”

The MeT officials here said Pahalgam in Anantnag recorded a low of minus 4.3 degrees Celsius against minus 3.4 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 1 degree Celsius below normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

They said that Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a minimum of 0.2 degrees Celsius against 0.8 degrees Celsius the previous night and the temperature was above normal for the place by 0.8 degrees Celsius.

The MeT officials said that Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius against 0.7 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 0.5 degrees Celsius below normal for this time of the year in the city.

They said that the ski resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla district recorded a low of minus 2.3 degrees Celsius against minus 3 degrees Celsius the previous night and the latest temperature was 1 degree Celsius above normal at the resort.

The MeT officials said Qazigund in south Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius against minus 0.4 degrees Celsius the previous night and the minimum temperature was 0.5 degrees Celsius below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

They said Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius against minus 2.5 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 0.3 degrees Celsius below normal.
