The biting cold has forced people, especially the elderly, to confine themselves indoors once evening sets in. Traffic movement has noticeably thinned during night hours, with residents avoiding travel unless necessary. In marketplaces, people can be seen gathering around bonfires to stay warm.

Ground frost has been reported from several high-altitude villages in Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban, particularly during early morning and late-night hours, adding to slippery conditions on local roads and footpaths.

Temperature Trends Across the Region

The weather trend remained consistent across the Chenab valley, with maximum and minimum temperatures staying well below normal.

Meteorological officials attributed the continuing cold wave to prolonged dry conditions and the absence of cloud cover, which typically helps retain warmth during the night.

As the cold intensifies, doctors have advised people to take precautions, especially during early morning and late evening hours, and to ensure adequate heating arrangements to avoid health complications related to the harsh winter.
