Mendhar Fest 2025 opens with strong youth participation
Poonch, Dec 1: Mendhar Fest 2025, a major youth sports initiative held under Operation Sadbhavana, opened with enthusiastic participation as hundreds of students from local schools competed in athletics events at OP Hill Stadium.
As per a statement issued on Monday, organised by the Mendhar Battalion of the Bhimber Gali Brigade, the fest aims to build confidence, character and unity among young people in Jammu and Kashmir through structured sports activities.
The opening day at OP Hill Stadium on 1 December 2025 witnessed spirited participation from students of GHSS Mendhar, GDC Mendhar, GHS Uchhad, GHS Gohlad, GHS Mankot, and Eklavya Model Residential School. The boys’ events included the 100m sprint, 400m race, 100m relay, long jump, and javelin throw, all of which saw intense competition and loud cheers from the stands.
Girls also delivered powerful performances in 100m, 200m, 400m, shot put, and long jump, displaying determination, athleticism, and inspiring confidence. Their participation highlighted the fest’s commitment to promoting equal opportunities for both genders.
Speaking on the occasion, the CO Mendhar Battalion, who was the chief guest, commended the participants and said, “Your speed, teamwork, and never-give-up attitude are exactly what our region needs. Every performance today reflects a step toward a stronger and more united Mendhar.”
Athletics, he added, imbibe resilience, discipline, teamwork, and life skills that help young people overcome everyday challenges. The Indian Army, through Operation Sadbhavana, continues to encourage such talent by planning scholarships, coaching clinics, and exposure visits for promising athletes.
The Athletics Championship concluded on a high note, perfectly capturing the spirit of Mendhar Fest 2025. The excitement now moves to the cricket tournament scheduled from 2–4 December, followed by the Mendhar Marathon on 9 December. The Grand Finale on 11 December will include cultural performances, prize distribution, and an ex-servicemen meet, marking a memorable finish to the mega youth festival.
