Tulmulla, Jun 2: Hundreds of devotees, mostly Kashmiri Pandits, thronged the revered shrine of Mata Kheer Bhawani at Tulmulla in Ganderbal district on Monday, ahead of the annual festival, which will be observed on Tuesday.

Nestled amid majestic Chinar trees, the temple witnessed a steady influx of pilgrims throughout the day.

Officials from the civil and Police administration, along with residents and civil society members, extended a warm welcome to the devotees.

District administration Ganderbal has put in place elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the annual mela.

Local Muslim residents also participated in the reception, showcasing the traditional harmony that marks the occasion.

ìI am overwhelmed by the hospitality. Seeing young Hindu and Muslim youth working together for the festival is heartening,î said a devotee.

The temple compound reverberated with chants and hymns as pilgrims offered prayers.

Stalls set up by local Muslims offered items required for the rituals, adding to the festive spirit.

ìThe arrangements are satisfactory and the atmosphere is peaceful. We feel blessed to be here,î said Vijay Raina, a devotee from Jammu.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, visited the shrine to review the final arrangements, ensuring that all facilities were in place for the pilgrims.

ìThe welcome arrangements have touched our hearts. We feel safe and blessed,î he said.

Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in strength to ensure security for the festival.

Authorities have also issued a detailed traffic advisory to regulate vehicular movement towards the shrine.

Celebrated on Zyestha Ashtami, which falls on June 3 this year, the Mela Kheer Bhawani holds deep religious significance for Kashmiri Pandits.

Many devotees are expected to spend the night at the shrine in prayer and devotion.
