Mehbooba hopeful of receiving support from tribal communities
Anantnag, Apr 8:Former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that she is hopeful that people from tribal communities will support her party during the elections.
“I hope these people will respect and strengthen my voice,” Mehbooba, who is contesting from Annatnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, told reporters in south Kashmir’s Bijbehara area. She said she visited Bijbehara to offer “fateha” on the grave of her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, founder of PDP.
Mehbooba said that the tribal communities are constantly being targeted because there is a feeling that they have no voice of their own and are unheard.
“As you know, just two days ago some hooligans in Janipur area of Jammu tried to assault a tribal girl and when her family members tried to rescue her, they were also beaten up. Police instead of filing an FIR wanted to register a counter one”, said the PDP leader. She said that time and again she raised her voice against such atrocities.
Referring to the post-abrogation political situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti said that after 2019 if any political was targeted that was PDP, because it raised voice against the current dispensations atrocities. “Attempts were made to disintegrate her party. Many of my party leaders were forced into switching to other parties. My family also had to suffer a lot”, Mehbooba said.
She said that now they feel that if her voice reaches to parliament it would represent the true voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. “They trying to pull all the stops to keep her out of the parliament”, Mehbooba said.
