Kargil, Mar 18: Wildlife photography demands patience, determination, and a deep understanding of animal behaviour, qualities that Karamjeet Singh, a young wildlife photographer from Kargil, Ladakh, embodies with passion.

His love for animals, birds, and travel has driven him to explore the Himalayan region, capturing stunning images of its diverse wildlife and landscapes. Karamjeet Singh, an expedition leader and wildlife photographer, focuses on the rare and endangered species of Ladakh, a region known for its unique biodiversity.

His mesmerising images showcase some of the most elusive creatures, including snow leopards, Himalayan brown bears, Pallas’s cats, and Tibetan wolves.

Among his most striking captures is a rare photograph of a mother snow leopard playing with her cub in the snow, a moment that reflects both the beauty and fragility of Ladakh’s wildlife. Talking to Greater Kashmir, Karamjeet recalled how his journey in wildlife photography began in his hometown of Kargil.

“I developed a passion for wildlife photography more than a decade ago. I remember capturing my first photograph of a Himalayan brown bear in 2016. Since then, it has been an incredible journey, allowing me to document numerous species,” he said.

Karamjeet frequently travels across Ladakh, visiting locations such as Hemis and Drass, to photograph the region’s diverse wildlife.

“Ladakh is home to an astonishing variety of birds and mammals, and I strive to capture them through my lens,” he said.

Karamjeet said that wildlife photography comes with its challenges, requiring immense patience and adaptability to unpredictable conditions in the field.

Beyond wildlife, Karamjeet has also documented the breathtaking landscapes of Ladakh, its indigenous tribes, and celestial nightscapes.

He believes photography is a powerful tool for conservation, using his work to raise awareness about the importance of protecting Ladakh’s rich fauna and their fragile habitats. Friends and fellow photographers praise Karamjeet for his dedication to wildlife conservation.

“He has captured stunning images of snow leopards and other endangered species, bringing Ladakh’s unique wildlife and landscapes to the forefront,” one of his friends said. As Karamjeet continues his journey, he remains committed to exploring and documenting the wonders of Ladakh’s wildlife, hoping to inspire greater appreciation and conservation efforts for the region’s natural heritage.
