Kupwara, June 6: BSF’s 26th Battalion Thursday organised a free medical and veterinary camp under civic action programme at Budnamal village close to Line of Control in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district with an aim to provide quality medical care and free medicines to the poor and needy people of the area.

The medical camp was inaugurated by former BDC Chairman Chowkibal Firdous Ahmad Mir along with DIG BSF MD Upadhyay, Commandant 26th Battalion BSF Lienzakai Sithlou and other officials.

A team of specialist BSF and civil doctors rendered their services to over five hundred patients including men, women and children. On the occasion over eighty animals were also examined and provided free medicines.

Patients who had come from different nearby villages for treatment hailed the efforts of BSF for organising medical and veterinary camp in such a remote area. They appealed BSF to organise such camps in future also for the larger benefit of locals.

On the occasion DIG BSF MD Upadhyay said that BSF has always stood for peace, prosperity and development of the society. “The aim of such programmes is to develop good relations with locals and also help them in difficult times. It is a continuous process and BSF is periodically conducting community outreach programmes in one or other way. In the past also such free medical camps were organised in Kupwara district,” he added.

He said that they will continue to conduct such civic programmes for the benefit of the local public in future.

Second in Command SFP Vaiphei, Deputy Commandant Vijay Kumar, SM Rakesh Kumar, Dr Sumit Thakur AC/MO 26th Battalion, Dr Karan Singh AC/MO 26th Battalion, Dr Sreeparna Sahu AC/MO 127th Battalion and for veterinary Dr Manik Sharma AC (Veterinary doctor), Inspector Yogesh Tanta 26th Battalion BSF were also present on this occasion.

Dr Aijaz Ahmad Deputy Superintendent Associate Hospital GMC Handwara, Dr Javid Munawer Gynaecologist, Dr Rameez Nabi dental surgeon, Dr Aayat Mir Medical Officer, Dr Javid Ahmad from GMC Handwara were among the civil doctors who attended.
