The Mughal Road, connecting the Shopian district in Kashmir with the Poonch district in the Pir Panjal region, has been closed for the last three months amid the accumulation of snow which has completely blocked the Pir Panjal mountain pass.

The road used to get closed in November-December earlier.

However, this year it was closed in January due to the prolonged dry season in the wake of delayed rains and snowfall.

“To restore movement of vehicles on the road, the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Jammu and Kashmir government is mulling to start snow clearance work to open it for traffic.
